Bhavan Vidyalaya Flags Off Maitree 2023 Cyclothon From Chandigarh to Kathmandu

A pioneer among Tricity schools in holding long cyclothons, the Adventure and Cycling Club of Bhavan Vidyalaya, Chandigarh, embarked on an extraordinary and exciting journey from Chandigarh to Kathmandu.

Flagging off the cyclothon, R K Saboo, Chairman, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Chandigarh Kendra, extended his heartfelt appreciation to the young cyclists, applauding their unwavering determination and enthusiasm. Reflecting on his own cycling years, Saboo expressed his utmost desire to be a part of the cycling team.

Flagging off the cyclothon

 

12 days, 1300 km

Over the course of 12 days, 17 students accompanied by five teachers will cover a distance of 1300 km on their cycles. Their route to Kathmandu will take them through notable destinations Haridwar, Kashipur, Sitarganj, Kapilvastu, and Bharatpur, adding to the richness of their experience, immersing them in an enriching and entirely different cultural experience.

The Indian Embassy in Nepal will host them during their stay there. Additionally, as part of the cultural exchange programme, the students will visit the prestigious Daffodil School in Kathmandu. This opportunity will allow them to engage with the local community, fostering mutual understanding and appreciation.

Maitree 2023 Cyclothon

Maitree 2023 Cyclothon marks the fifth expedition organized by Bhavan Vidyalaya, Chandigarh. In 2018, the students visited Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar, followed by the 2019 Dandi March expedition to Gujarat to celebrate 150th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. In 2021, the ‘Tour de Himachal’ expedition took them to Shimla as part of ‘Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat’, while the ‘desert safari’ to Rajasthan in 2021 was a part of the Aazadi ka Amrit Mahostav.

Vineeta Arora, Director Education cum Senior Principal, applauded the cycling team’s enthusiasm and wished them a safe trip. Inderpreet Kaur, Principal New Chandigarh branch, Kunika Sharma, Principal, Junior School, and Vice Principal Suparna Bansal were also present to encourage the students on their inspiring journey.

The main objective of the cyclothon is to strengthen the centuries-old ties between India and Nepal and foster a deeper bond of friendship and love with the neighbouring country. Promoting love and universal brotherhood, Maitree 2023 Cyclothon embraces the theme of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ which signifies the belief that ‘The world is one family’.
